Isn’t autumn a perfect time to eat sweet potatoes? If you need any evidence, just look at how both of them are represented with festive, vibrant colors. Sweet potatoes make any holiday gathering look lively, and you should not feel guilty when you have a chance to put some on your plate. Sweet potatoes are incredibly rich in nutrients your skin loves, which is why you should take it one step further and start incorporating them into an anti-aging home remedy.

Here are 3 sweet potato anti-aging masks that you can make with other kitchen ingredients. These homemade masks are capable of fading the appearance of lines and wrinkles, but they can also minimize acne spots and deep clean your skin. This information may surprise you, especially if you regularly eat sweet potatoes. However, once you understand how sweet potatoes benefit your skin externally, you will be amazed by how easy and effective these face masks are.

1. Sweet Potato & Almond Oil Antioxidant-Rich Face Mask for Ageless Skin

Sweet potatoes have anti-aging properties. This is because sweet potatoes contain a lot of antioxidants that help mitigate the effects of free radicals. When left unchecked, free radicals damage your skin and make it more vulnerable to signs of aging, for example, lines and wrinkles. Therefore, the more antioxidants you use on your skin, the better it will look! The most common antioxidants found in sweet potatoes are Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E as well as carotenoids and anthocyanins, two pigments that are responsible for sweet potatoes’ vibrant colors.

Speaking of Vitamin E, it is an amazing antioxidant that is found in so many natural ingredients besides sweet potatoes. One of these, in particular, is almond oil. Because almond oil is rich in many fatty acids like oleic acid and omega-3 fatty acids, you can use it to deeply nourish your skin. This, in turn, can revitalize your skin cells, reduce inflammation, and help your lines and wrinkles look less pronounced.

Ingredients

12 drops of almond oil

⅛ tsp. of turmeric powder

1 tbsp. of boiled sweet potato

Instructions

Mix the ingredients together.

Apply this remedy and massage your skin with upward, circular strokes for 2 to 5 minutes. Leave it on for 10 minutes.

2. Sweet Potato & Nutmeg Anti-Aging Face Mask to Reduce Acne & Blackheads

Sweet potatoes can also be used to reduce acne and blackheads. As we mentioned above, sweet potatoes contain antioxidants such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. Since free radicals may cause acne and blackheads as well as acne scarring, using an antioxidant-rich natural ingredient like sweet potato can be beneficial for acne-prone skin. Vitamin A, in particular, is even more essential because it has been thought to reduce acne.

Ingredients

⅛ tsp. of nutmeg powder

½ tsp. of boiled sweet potato

1 tbsp. of fuller’s earth or bentonite clay

Rosewater, as needed

Instructions

Mix the nutmeg, sweet potato, and clay of your choice together.

Add enough rosewater to the mixture until you get a paste with the consistency of ketchup.

Apply the face mask and leave it on for 15 minutes.

Wash the face mask off with warm water. Follow with your daily skin care routine.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

3. Sweet Potato, Castor Oil & Vegetable Glycerin Anti-Aging Face Mask to Deep Clean Your Skin

Now that we know sweet potatoes can be used to diminish acne and signs of aging, adding a sweet potato to any home remedy will allow it to tackle these skin issues at ease. It can even be used in conjunction with other natural ingredients to deep clean your skin. Castor oil, for example, is antimicrobial and has garnered a good reputation for fighting acne. Vegetable glycerin, on the other hand, is a humectant, which means that it draws moisture toward your skin and helps alleviate dryness as well as diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles. By cleaning your skin with the home remedy found below, you can beautify it and protect it at the same time.

Ingredients

6 drops of castor oil

8 drops of Vitamin E oil

8 drops of vegetable glycerin

1 tbsp. of boiled sweet potato

Instructions

Mix the ingredients together.

Apply and massage your skin with upward, circular strokes for 2 to 5 minutes. Leave it on for 10 minutes.

Wash it off with warm water. Follow with your toner, serum, and lotion.

Use once a week.
