If you say that you want to have radiant skin without a single dark spot, I will not be surprised. You are not the only one; we all want it. But common skin conditions like melasma can take that away from your skin. If you are reading this, it is safe to assume that you are already struggling with not just melasma but also its psychological impact.

Melasma is caused when the skin pigment called melanin is disproportionately scattered under your skin causing brown patches. Hyperpigmentation of skin not only affects women but also men, who are just as exposed to its risk. At this point, I also take the liberty to assume that you have already tried chemical-laden topical creams and medication courses that hardly made any difference. They just expose your skin to harsh chemicals like hydroquinone that are known to do more harm than good. Hydroquinone is banned in many countries since serious risks associated with its use are beginning to surface.

Did you know that science has come around to believing in the effectiveness of natural ingredients? According to an American Academy of Dermatology Expert, Rebat M. Halder, natural products are showing great promise in the treatment of hyperpigmentation and melasma, as compared to topical medicated creams.

On that note, I urge you to stop relying on over-the-counter medications and place your faith in the hands of nature. There is nothing more long-lasting than a natural fix for melasma pigmentation. Here is my list of 5 natural melasma home remedies that will help fade the hyperpigmentation on your skin.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar: We have been using apple cider vinegar for a lot of things, such as helping indigestion or weight loss. But believe it or not, its acetic acid component also makes it one of the best natural remedies for melasma. Why live with these pesky spots when you have a solution right inside your kitchen cabinet? Use apple cider vinegar for melasma now!

Home Remedy

To use apple cider vinegar for hyperpigmentation, mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar with water and apply it on the affected areas using a cotton ball. Wait for your skin to air dry before you gently rinse it with warm water. Follow this routine 1-2 times a week and never forget to use serum and lotion right after. Undernourished skin shows the appearance of hyperpigmentation or melasma far more readily.

Alternatively, you can also mix fresh tomato juice in equal parts with apple cider vinegar and apply it to the dark spots as one of the most reliable home remedies for melasma on face. The natural sulfur present in tomato juice can help restore the skin’s natural color and avoid future discoloration.

“I bought two of your serums, just the serums, the [Rosehip & Citrus serum] and the [Sweet Almond & Wheatgerm serum]. They made this [hyperpigmentation] go away.”

2. Lemon Juice: This may not be the first time you heard someone recommend lemon juice for your beauty routine. Known for its natural skin lightening abilities,

Melasma & hyperpigmentation
lemon is acidic in nature and this helps your skin resurface. Citric acid found in lemon juice is an alpha hydroxy acid, which is famous for its melasma lightening properties. Vitamin C in lemon juice acts to reverse and keep in check free radical damage (e.g. from overexposure to the sun) that can aggravate melasma.

Many advocate using lemon juice alone, but I am strictly against it. Lemon juice is serious stuff! It can cause your skin to become dry and irritated if used excessively or undiluted.

3. Turmeric: Yes, good old turmeric is also one of the best home remedies for melasmaThis yellow natural spice is used in many cultures to balance skin and fade melasma. The curcumin present in turmeric has serious antioxidant properties which means natural brakes on free radical damage to your skin. Turmeric is widely used in Ayurvedic skin care due to its natural healing properties. It has made a big launch worldwide as an esteemed superfood. Nothing beats its effectiveness as a skin care superstar. In Ayurveda, turmeric is known for its natural color balancing properties.
