We’ve always thought it is a little bit silly when people complain about the taste of water. Some like to add fruits like lemons or spices like cayenne pepper to their water to give it a little more flavor and make it more desirable to drink. However, the taste of water shouldn’t matter! You shouldn’t let the taste of water prevent you from drinking enough of it every day.

Water is important because it helps keep your body healthy and functional. Nevertheless, if that reasoning isn’t enough for you, drinking water is also an incredibly simple way of getting soft, glowing, and youthful skin. Not many people know this, and for those that do, they might not be drinking water properly to benefit their skin. Today, we will tell you why you should drink enough water every day and how you should do it. Over time, these habits may help you achieve soft, glowing, and youthful skin.

But before that let's answer the question about how much water you should drink everyday. 8 glasses, you might have heard. But that may not be the quantity that everyone needs or will benefit from.

If you go to the gym or workout a lot, your need for water can be larger than normal. Why? Simply because you will lose water via sweating while you exercise.

If you drink more than 2-3 cups of coffee or tea, you will need to drink more water than normal since these beverages are dehydrating in nature.

If you drink alcohol, you can be certain of its dehydrating effects. So drinking more water to compensate is a great idea.

If you have the central heat on during the winter months, you are advised to drink more water than usual to make up for the dehydrating effects of the dry heat.

Likewise it is best to monitor your body for signs of dehydration in order to reverse it by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. How do you know you are dehydrated? Well your skin might tell you by feeling drier that usual. Your hair might get dry and lackluster as well due to the lack of adequate hydration.

What You Need to Know About Why You Should Drink Enough Water Every Day

Without water, you will suffer from dehydration, but what does that mean exactly, especially for your skin?

First, if you’re not drinking enough water every day, your skin might start looking dry, flaky, and tight. Plus, since dry skin tends to look more aged than normal and moisturized skin, your fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging might start to look more pronounced. Water can travel all the way to your skin cells and helps them stay healthy, functional, and hydrated. With enough water, your skin’s barrier is firm, elastic, and better equipped to protect your body from external harm.

Second, if you’re not drinking enough water every day, there may be more toxins in your body, which may impact the appearance of your skin. Your body uses water to flush out and excrete waste, toxins, and other impurities from your body. Without water, those toxins and impurities can build up in your body and may eventually cause skin dullness and unevenness, among other skin and health concerns. (Because of this, you can think of drinking water as an easy way to detoxify yourself every day.)

Third, while this may seem contradictory, if you’re not drinking enough water every day, your body may actually start retaining more water. Because of how essential water is, your body will be able to detect if it is not receiving enough water and will start storing as much as it can. As a result, your skin may start to look puffy, bloated, and discolored.

What You Need to Know About How You Should Drink Enough Water Every Day

While drinking water seems easy enough, there are tips you can implement into your lifestyle that will benefit your body and skin.

First, it is recommended to always drink warm or lukewarm water instead of cold water. It is believed in Ayurveda that cold water slows down digestion. Slower digestion can increase the amount of toxicity in your body, which is known as ama in Sanskrit. More ama, in turn, may lead to poorer health and lackluster skin.

Second, while you might have heard that you need 8 glasses of water a day, you should not chug a lot of water at once because it will just make you go to the bathroom more often. In contrast, Ayurveda recommends sipping your water throughout the day, which will help your body absorb more water as well as aid digestion.

Third, when you drink water is significant too. For example, you should start your day with a glass of water because your body is a little dehydrated after sleeping. On the other hand, if you drink a lot of water before bed, that may disrupt your sleep schedule due to frequent bathroom trips, which may indirectly impact your complexion.

Fourth, you should adjust your lifestyle accordingly if you have any dehydrating habits. For instance, if you drink coffee or alcohol regularly, you should compensate by drinking more water than normal because coffee and alcohol are known to be dehydrating.

Finally, if you don’t drink enough water throughout the day, you can always eat it instead. There are plenty of natural foods that can hydrate you thoroughly while filling you up too. For example, tomatoes, watermelons, and cucumbers are great sources of water and nutrients to rejuvenate both your body and skin.

We know that this information has made something as simple as drinking water even more complicated, but if you are serious about taking good care of your skin, you have to understand how significant water actually is to your skin. By drinking enough water every day and knowing how to do it well, you may start to see a more glowing and youthful complexion soon.

Of course, drinking water is not enough.
