Even with good skin care habits, acne may still unexpectedly show up on your face, bringing along redness, inflammation, and pus. When that happens, the first that comes to mind is to look for a solution immediately so that your skin stays beautiful. If you find yourself looking up home remedies for acne on the Internet, you might come across tea tree oil as an option. While there are some acne home DIYs on the Internet that seem questionable, make no mistake, tea tree oil is the real deal. Tea tree oil (also known as melaleuca oil) is a natural ingredient that has amazing skin care benefits, but it is particularly skilled at handling acne and any subsequent acne breakouts.

Here are 5 tea tree oil DIYs you must use right away to diminish acne as well as blackheads, whiteheads, and open pores. If you would like to find out where to get tea tree oil, you could go to your local natural foods store or you can purchase a tea tree essential oil from Shiva, which is Apsara Skin Care’s essential oil brand. (Shiva also has other essential oils that you may be interested in.)

Before we start, take note: although tea tree oil is natural and has many skin benefits when used externally, it should never be taken internally. When swallowed, it is poisonous and can cause serious health problems. Tea tree oil does not pose an immediate risk on your skin (unless, of course, it irritates your skin), but be careful when using it. Since tea tree oil is an essential oil, it must be diluted before it is used.

1. Tea Tree Oil Reduces Acne & Clears Up Your Skin

Acne does not stand a chance against tea tree oil. Why? Because tea tree oil has antibacterial properties and one of the main causes of acne is a bacterial infection. For many of us, particularly those with oily and acne-prone skin, our pores can become clogged with things such as dead skin, oil, dirt, and bacteria. When that bacteria are allowed to grow and fester, your skin begins to develop acne.

Since tea tree oil is antibacterial, it can effectively clean your skin so that acne-causing bacteria are neutralized. This will lead to less acne as well as fewer acne breakouts in the future. Tea tree oil has become so well-known in skin care that it has become a very popular ingredient in many over-the-counter acne products. Need more proof? Tea tree oil has even been studied to reduce the appearance of acne.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

Notes

For any and all of these DIYs, if you have sensitive skin, you should perform a patch test before using tea tree oil on your face.

“Hi, my name is Sanika, and I’ve been using the Apsara products - the cleanser, serum, toner, and lotion - and I’ve been seeing a lot of good results. The areas near my nose have cleared up a lot, and I’ve also noticed a lot less acne.”

When you use tea tree oil on your skin, you can say goodbye to blackheads and whiteheads too. As we’ve discussed previously, blackheads and whiteheads are caused

You don’t have to pluck your blackheads and whiteheads anymore, thanks to tea tree oil!
