We all want our skin to be soft, supple, and youthful, and that starts with a moisturizer. A moisturizer is typically packed with benefits that can deeply nourish your skin so that dry skin becomes less of a problem and lines and wrinkles look far less visible. However, you don’t want to settle for any regular over-the-counter moisturizer. While that moisturizer may be able to reduce dryness, it may not be the perfect fit for your skin, meaning that you could not be getting the best results from it. Moreover, that moisturizer might contain harsh chemicals that could negatively impact the health and vitality of your skin.

Your daily skin care routine is not complete without a high-quality facial moisturizer so it’s important to know what to look for so you can make the best choice for yourself and your skin. Today, we’ll help you do just that. Continue reading to learn how you can choose the best facial moisturizer for your skin. Plus, you will get a few tips on how to apply it every day so that you can get skin that looks healthy, supple, and ageless.

Know What Your Skin Type Is Beforehand

While facial moisturizers might not seem that different from one another apart from their aroma, they are actually formulated to meet or solve certain skin needs. For example, a facial moisturizer that is made for acne-prone skin would be a different formulation than a facial moisturizer for dry skin, even if both were made by the same company. If you know what your skin type is, it would make no sense to use a product that isn’t able to address your skin type or concerns, right? Those with oily/acne-prone skin wouldn’t want to use a facial moisturizer for dry skin because they need a moisturizer that will minimize excess oiliness rather than provide intense nourishment. Therefore, knowing what your skin type is and what your skin concerns are can go a long way in helping you find the best moisturizer for your skin.

However, if you don’t know what your skin type is, here is a simple test for you to determine it. Take 4 pieces of tissues and gently wipe each one across your forehead, nose, and cheeks. Then, examine the pieces of tissue in front of the light. Simply put, tissues with no oil suggest that you have dry skin, tissues with a lot of oil suggest that you have oily skin, tissues with a little bit of oil suggest that you have normal skin, and a mix of these different tissues suggest that you have combination skin. While this test isn’t definitive by any means, it will give you a better sense of what your skin is like between washes. For instance, if there is a lot of oil on your skin, you may benefit from a skin care routine for oily/acne-prone skin.

Use an All-Natural Facial Moisturizer on Your Skin

Knowing what your skin type is will give you a sound idea as to what type of facial moisturizer you should look for, but it is just as important to be aware of the quality of these products. In particular, you should always use high-quality, all-natural products on your skin. If your skin is experiencing an excessive amount of oiliness or dryness, one of the causes could be the harsh chemicals found in your skin care products. Parabens and phthalates, for example, could damage your skin and be responsible for not only oiliness and dryness but also dullness, lackluster skin, and premature signs of aging. All-natural products, on the other hand, contain no such chemicals. Plus, all-natural products are just as effective to moisturize your skin, especially if they contain ingredients that have been time-tested in Ayurveda.

At Apsara Skin Care, we have a collection of all-natural facial lotions that are customized to match your skin type. To learn more, click here.

Now that you know what to look for to get the best facial moisturizer for your skin, it’s time to know how you should use it. As simple as putting moisturizer on your face may seem, there are a few things you can do to maximize your results in order to get soft, nourished, and youthful skin naturally.

1. Use Your Facial Lotion as Part of Your Daily Skin Care Routine

There are four steps to your daily skin care routine: cleanser, toner, serum, and lotion. After you wash your face, you should not neglect your toner and serum before putting on your facial lotion. Your toner helps tighten up and refine the look of your skin while your serum can deeply penetrate your skin and nourish it with fatty acids. Following up your cleanser with only your moisturizer means that while you will be moisturizing and nourishing your skin, you won’t be doing all that you can to get soft, plump skin.

2. Start with a Small Amount of Your Facial Lotion

Don’t just squeeze out a random amount of lotion to moisturize your face. Not only is it wasteful, but it may also cause skin problems further down the road. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount of facial lotion. If you use too much, the rest of it will sit on your skin, which might clog up your pores and not allow your skin to breathe. This, in turn, may cause acne, dull skin, and blemishes. Instead, start with a pea-sized amount and work from there.

3. Be Gentle on Your Skin

Even if you don’t have sensitive skin, you never want to be rough when applying your facial lotion. If you are rubbing too hard or you’re pulling your skin, you could be causing sagging skin and premature wrinkles. Don’t rush; use gentle, upward circular strokes to make sure that your skin absorbs your facial lotion.
