None of us want to eat food that will age our skin quickly. In fact, we want the opposite; we want to eat food that will revitalize us, provide a lot of nutrients, and help our skin look more flawless and ageless. However, whether it’s a change in our diet, less time to cook homemade meals, et cetera, sometimes we will eat food that is not necessarily good for us. When this happens, your skin may be an unfortunate victim in the process, and it might start to look more aged and lifeless.

Even when you don’t have a consistent daily schedule, it’s important to know which foods you should avoid if you want to keep your youthful skin intact. Today, we will provide some of that information to you. Keep reading to learn 3 foods that can age your skin quickly. Because your diet is an essential part of your lifestyle, this knowledge is sure to come in handy and may help you keep those premature lines and wrinkles away.

1. Refined Carbs

You might be saddened by this news, but refined carbs can make your skin more prone to premature aging. A lot of people love carbs, including us, but have you noticed that your skin tends to look redder and puffier after a night of eating refined carbs? That’s because refined carbs typically have a high glycemic index. This means that when you consume refined carbs, your blood sugar spikes, causing inflammation to rise in your body. More inflammation can make your lines and wrinkles look more pronounced than normal. Refined carbs may also result in more acne. When your blood sugar spikes, your body will start to produce more sebum, which, in turn, can clog your pores and trap impurities such as acne-causing bacteria underneath.

Fortunately, you don’t have to give up carbs completely. We are specifically talking about refined carbs; this includes foods made with added sugars (i.e. breakfast cereal and pastries) and foods made with white flour (i.e. white bread, and white pasta). Unrefined carbs, on the other hand, have a much lower glycemic index and therefore won’t aggravate your skin and age it quickly. Good examples of unrefined carbs include whole grains, legumes, and nuts. Remember, carbs are good for you because they provide a lot of energy to your body. However, by replacing refined carbs with unrefined carbs in your diet, you can keep your body healthy as well as expect a more youthful glow on your skin.

2. Preservatives

We recognize that preservatives in food have some benefit because they are capable of stopping food from spoiling too quickly, especially foods that have a short shelf life. However, if you want your skin to stay youthful, you have to do your research and learn which foods in your diet contain a lot of preservatives. Preservatives can have an adverse reaction on your skin, which may lead to inflammation, redness, and swelling. Preservatives can also increase your body’s toxic load, and this could appear on your skin as dullness and more pronounced signs of aging.

When your food contains more preservatives and more synthetic ingredients than natural ingredients, that is troubling indeed, both for your general health and the health of your skin. Try to keep your consumption of these foods to a minimum if you don’t want your skin to age quickly. The same is equally true for your skin care routine. Adding all-natural skin care products to your daily routine and getting rid of products that are laden with preservatives is sure to be good news for the appearance and vitality of your skin. 3. Animal Products

Similar to the concern about preservatives, you should also eliminate animal products from your diet if you want youthful skin. That’s because animal products often contain hormones, antibiotics, and other harsh chemicals. Hormones and antibiotics are meant to make the food more desirable, but these chemicals aren’t necessarily safe to be consumed by you. Some have claimed, for example, that these chemicals can be linked to obesity and other health concerns. With regards to your skin, these chemicals can increase your toxic load and may result in more aged, lackluster skin. Plus, if that wasn’t enough, certain animal products like dairy have been studied to contribute to more acne.

The obvious solution to avoid ingesting these hormones and other chemicals is to eliminate animal products from your diet. However, if you’re concerned about your nutrition, you don’t need to worry because there are many plant-based foods that are a good substitute. For example, legumes like green peas are good sources of protein. By making these simple changes, your skin might be less likely to show its age.
