When the word “eucalyptus” comes to mind, the first thing you might imagine is small, fluffy koalas munching on some eucalyptus leaves before they drift off to sleep. However, eucalyptus is more than just food for these cute animals. It can also be transformed into an essential oil that we can use ourselves. As an essential oil, eucalyptus is a popular choice for aromatherapy and sinus relief. More importantly, eucalyptus oil can be a potent natural ingredient for your skin, especially if you have a combination skin type.

Here are 3 reasons why you must start using eucalyptus essential oil in your skin care routine as well as 3 beautifying remedies meant for combination skin. These remedies can keep your skin balanced, nourished, and calm while still promoting a radiant and ageless appearance. Once you see the benefits behind eucalyptus oil, you may want to start asking koalas to leave some eucalyptus for the rest of us!

If you are interested in using eucalyptus essential oil in a skin care product with natural ingredients, our Eucalyptus Balancing Face Lotion is perfect for combination skin. On the other hand, if you would like to use eucalyptus essential oil by itself on in these remedies, be sure to check out the eucalyptus essential oil from Shiva, which is Apsara Skin Care’s essential oil brand. We also offer other essential oils under the Shiva brand.

Before we begin, we need to issue a word of caution: similar to tea tree oil, eucalyptus essential oil is toxic when swallowed. If you wish to use eucalyptus oil on your skin, make sure to dilute it first and avoid getting it in your mouth. (Koalas are able to consume eucalyptus but we cannot!) This applies even if you use eucalyptus oil in a home remedy, like the ones found below. Also, if your skin is sensitive or easily irritated, you should perform a patch test before using eucalyptus oil or a eucalyptus oil-based home remedy on your face.

1. Eucalyptus Oil Is an Amazing Skin Purifier for Combination Skin

One of the main benefits associated with eucalyptus essential oil is its ability to keep your skin healthy and balanced. This is due to the antibacterial properties found in eucalyptus oil. Whether it is used by itself or in a home remedy, eucalyptus oil can clean your skin and open pores, neutralizing any bacteria that could cause future skin problems. For example, eucalyptus oil has been studied to fight acne (which can be the result of a bacterial infection within open pores) and control excess skin oiliness. Eucalyptus is so widely known for its antibacterial properties that it has even been used anecdotally as a disinfectant for cuts and wounds and a home cleaning product. If you have combination skin, eucalyptus oil will definitely be worthwhile to you; it will be able to clean your skin without leaving it too oily or too dry in the process.

Ingredients

3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil

1 tbsp. of rice flour

Rosewater, as needed

Instructions

Mix the eucalyptus oil and rice flour together. Add enough rosewater to the mixture until you get a paste with the consistency of ketchup.

Apply the paste and leave it on for 15 minutes.

Wash it off with warm water. Follow with your toner, serum, and lotion.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

“It doesn’t feel oily, it doesn’t feel greasy, and I honestly - it just feels like this lovely nourishing “goddessy” moment and that’s not an exaggeration.”

2. Eucalyptus Oil Is Rich in Anti-Aging Antioxidants

Another reason to use eucalyptus essential oil for your combination skin is its antioxidant activity. Antioxidants are absolutely vital for your skin because they are

responsible for eliminating free radicals from your skin and undoing the damage caused by free radicals. What kind of damage can free radicals do to your skin, you ask? Well, they may cause discoloration, disrupt collagen and elastin production, lead to discoloration, et cetera, and none of these side effects are synonymous with ageless, healthy, radiant, and balanced skin. Because free radicals have many causes (for example, sun overexposure, pollution, and UV rays), they cannot be easily avoided. As a result, using antioxidant-rich natural ingredients such as eucalyptus essential oil is your next best option. Eucalyptus oil can even assist with premature aging because it helps restore your skin to a healthier state, improve your skin’s look and texture, and boost collagen and elastin production.

3. Eucalyptus Oil Can Diminish Inflammation & Calm Your Combination Skin Down

Since eucalyptus essential oil is rich in antioxidants, this means that it also has anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is typically characterized by redness, itchiness, irritation, and swollenness, and many skin issues are the result of inflammation, for example, premature aging, acne, and discoloration. Your skin could be inflamed, and you might not be aware of it until now. Eucalyptus oil reduces inflammation because it contains important compounds like flavonoids and tannins and it is inherently soothing in nature due to its pleasant aroma. Thus, when you use eucalyptus oil on your skin, you are calming your combination skin, balancing it, and helping alleviate some or all of the skin issues you are experiencing.
