Even though you may be using the right products for your skin type, have you considered what else you could be doing to promote the well-being of your skin? We pay close attention to our skin when we’re looking in a mirror or we’re in the bathroom, but beyond that, it typically doesn’t play a factor in the rest of our decision making. For example, did you know that what you eat can impact the look of your skin? Would knowing what foods can lead to bright, ageless skin change how you structure your diet?

For some people, skin care is solely about personal hygiene, but if you’re only concerned about washing your face every day, you’re never going to get the youthful, flawless skin of your dreams. There are a few lifestyle lessons we all could learn that will help us maintain the health and look of our skin. (Hint: if you already have a daily and weekly natural skin care routine, you’re on the right track!) Continue reading to find out the top 5 essential anti-aging tips you can implement right away so that your skin is glowing, flawless, and clear.

1. Have a Complete Skin Care Routine, Both Daily & Weekly

What is a daily skin care routine, you may ask? It is not just washing your face with lukewarm water; it is also using a toner, serum, and lotion meant for your skin type. If you only wash your face, your skin may be too dry and it could be prone to excess oiliness and potentially acne breakouts. Adding a toner, serum, and lotion to your routine will help keep your skin healthy and moisturized. A weekly skin care routine is just your daily skin care routine plus regularly exfoliating and applying a facial mask 1 to 2 times a week.

In addition to that, you must use your daily skin care routine twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. It may seem like a lot to do at first, but as you make your

daily skin care routine a personal habit, the time it takes to do it will shorten and it will soon become a part of your morning and nightly routines. Having a daily and weekly skin care routine will result in long-term benefits because you are taking the time to cleanse and nourish your skin every day; with time, your skin may look more glowing and youthful because of your daily and weekly skin care routine.

However, if you do have a daily and weekly skin care routine that does not have any natural skin care products, you may as well not even have one in the first place. We do not mean to discourage you or shame you, but we really want to insist that those skin care products you’re using may have harsh chemicals that can undo all the work that a daily skin and weekly care routine tries to accomplish. It’s extremely important that if you do intend to have a daily and weekly skin care routine, it must be a natural one.

2. Do Not Eat Junk Food & Processed Food

Junk food and processed food may be easy and tasty, but what they can do to your body and skin may not be worth it for you. In order to make junk food and processed food

appealing yet nonperishable, many food companies put a lot of chemicals in their food, for example, food dyes, insecticides, and preservatives. Those chemicals are not good for our bodies and our skin, and they may lead to skin discoloration and early aging. Beyond that, though, junk food and processed food like refined grains can cause a huge spike in our blood sugar, which, in turn, may produce more acne. If you desire skin that is clear and youthful, avoid these foods.

3. Increase Your Fat Intake (Good Fats)

While you may think that this point contradicts with the last one, let us be clear that the fats we are talking about are good fats; this type of fat includes monounsaturated fatty acids, omega-3 fatty acids, and omega-6 fatty acids and they can be found in a countless number of all natural food. Having a regular anti-aging diet with these good fats in mind can lead to more youthful and glowing skin because these fats help nourish your skin and reduce inflammation in your body. Junk food and processed food, on the other hand, can be made from unnatural stuff such as insecticides and preservatives, and they can also contain bad fats such as trans fats and saturated fats. These bad fats can wreak havoc on your body and, among other things, cause acne breakouts or skin to look duller in comparison. This is yet another reason why you must make a switch towards all natural foods if you are serious about youthful skin; good fats such as omega-3 fatty acids are simply vital for the health of our skin.

4. Stress Is a Flawless Skin Killer

One of the reasons why stress can be harmful to your skin is cortisol. If you experience a lot of stress regularly, your cortisol levels will be higher than normal. If there is a lot of cortisol in your body, it will trigger an increased production of sebum (your skin’s natural oil), which can cause excess oiliness, clogged pores, and acne breakouts. Cortisol can also impair collagen and elastin production, which means that your skin will lose some of its elasticity and start to sag.

Another reason is that stress has been linked to inflammation. When your stress levels go up, your body produces a physiological response in the form of inflammation, which can manifest in the form of early aging, sagging skin, and hyperpigmentation. Although it may be difficult, whenever you see a zit or dark spot pop up on your skin, do not stress out about it because it may make your skin worse. Overall, try not to do too much in a single day and do whatever it takes to relieve your stress throughout the day whether it’s going out for a walk, listening to music, et cetera so that your skin does not age prematurely.

5. Make Sleep One of Your Highest Priorities Every Day

It’s very important to get the right amount of sleep so that you wake up the next day feeling rested and ready for whatever life brings you. This definitely ties in with stress;

too much stress can often hamper our ability to sleep and if you don’t get enough sleep, you’re more likely to be irritable and stressed. This chain reaction will just further worsen the condition of our skin and cause skin issues such as fine lines and wrinkles to appear more regularly. If you can manage your stress and sleep well every night, you will be able to reduce your cortisol levels and encourage clearer, more youthful-looking skin.
