Ever get annoyed when you look in the mirror and see dull skin? Of course you do. We all want glowing skin because it radiates with health, but sometimes we don’t know where to start. Who has the energy and patience to try all of those different skin care products on the market that guarantee glowing skin when we want the results immediately?

Luckily, you don’t have to search long and hard for an answer when it exists in your pantry. There are plenty of foods and ingredients you can use to get glowing skin without having to leave the comfort of your own home; you just have to see them in a different light. Think of it as cooking but for your face!

However, before you start putting on your mad scientist lab coats trying to whip up your own concoction for glowing skin, we have already prepared 10 home remedies that you can use on your skin right now. These remedies will help you get the glowing skin of your dreams without having to use anything you wouldn’t normally use to cook meals.

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can get you glowing skin because of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Coconut oil is able to deeply penetrate and cleanse your skin and your pores of dead skin cells that may be causing dullness. Plus, the saturated fats and antioxidants in coconut oil work to restore damaged skin back to normal. The saturated fats such as lauric acid (a medium chain fatty acid) provide nourishment to your skin cells while antioxidants help calm down inflammation and redness from environmental damage, acne and acne scars, et cetera.

Ingredients

1 tsp. of coconut oil

4 drops of castor oil

Instructions

Mix ingredients together.

Massage the mixture into your face for 2 minutes.

Wash it off with warm water. Follow with your toner, serum, and lotion.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

“Ever since I started using these products, I started to see a vast improvement within my skin. It looked… healthier, more vibrant, more color[ful].”

2. Papaya

Papaya owes its skin-brightening properties to an enzyme called papain. Papain exfoliates your skin, sloughing off the top layer of dull and dead skin cells. Exfoliation

Papaya for glowing skin
has two benefits. First, removing that dullness allows newer, brighter skin cells to come to surface, and this results in a brighter glow. Second, exfoliation promotes cell renewal, which means your skin will produce more skin cells that are glowing and youthful. Plus, papayas contain potassium and this nutrient hydrates skin. Once you’re done exfoliating, your skin may be a little sensitive, but the potassium in papayas helps protect it.

Ingredients

1 tsp. of mashed papaya

A sprinkle of oat flour

Instructions

Mix ingredients together.

Apply the mixture onto your face and leave it on for 12 minutes.

Wash it off with warm water. Follow with a daily skin care routine based on your skin type. Click here to find out what your skin type is.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

3. Baking Soda

Due to its texture, baking soda is a great exfoliating scrub to use if you want to get glowing skin. One of the causes of skin issues such as dullness, unwanted suntans, uneven skin tone, and blemishes, is dead skin cells, and baking soda is capable of dissolving them off of your skin. Baking soda is also antibacterial; using it on your skin can keep your skin clean as well as reduce acne and blackheads.

Ingredients

⅛ tsp. of baking soda

1 tsp. of rice flour

Rosewater, as needed

Instructions

Mix baking soda and rice flour together. Add enough rosewater to the mixture until you get a paste.

Apply the mixture onto your face and leave it on for 8 minutes.

Wash it off with warm water. Follow with your toner, serum, and lotion.

Use once a week.

Information

This remedy should only be once a week because baking soda can dry out your skin if it is used often.

4. Oatmeal

Similar to papaya and baking soda, oatmeal is a natural exfoliator that also functions as a cleanser. Saponins, natural compounds within oatmeal, cleanse the pores of dirt and oil without irritating it. Oatmeal can also be used to moisturize dry skin and reduce inflamed skin. Natural ingredients like papaya, baking soda, and oatmeal are proof that glowing skin is inside you all along, but you might need a little nudge to get to it.

Ingredients

Oatmeal, as needed

Lukewarm water, as needed

Instructions

Mix enough oatmeal and water together until you get a thick paste.

Apply the paste to your face and leave it on for 12 to 15 minutes.

Wash it off with warm water. Follow with your daily skin care routine.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.
